Dave Switzer's Home on the Web

Greetings and salutations.

Things to Do

[dot]

I teach computer studies and computer engineering at a high school -- applications in grade 9, programming in Turing and engineering in grade 11, and programming in Java in grade 12.

[dot]

I also have my own company, Crystalline Sphere Publishing, which publishes Challenging Destiny, a science fiction & fantasy magazine. I have an editing service -- if you send me your short story or novel, I will edit it for you.

[dot]

When I'm not working on the above projects, some of my favourite activities are reading, writing, playing cards, watching Enterprise, playing piano and organ, singing in a choir, and travelling the world.

[dot]

I am interested in apes, language, and the intersection of the two. I wrote an essay on language in apes for a University of Waterloo anthropology course on primate behaviour.

[dot]

When I'm travelling I like to take photos of mountains, waterfalls, and other things. The photos I've scanned in are from my trips to Europe and Western Canada & USA.

[dot]

Recently I've been collecting brilliant quotations about life, the universe, and everything. So far most of them are from science fiction authors.

[dot]

One of my favourite science fiction authors is Joan Slonczewski. She's written such stupendous novels as A Door Into Ocean and Brain Plague.

People to See

[dot]

Some friends of mine have home pages that are worth visiting. If you know me, then it's distinctly possible that you'll know some of them too.

Places to Go

[dot]

Do you want to know what's really wrong with the world and how to fix it? Read Daniel Quinn's books Ishmael, The Story of B, My Ishmael, and Beyond Civilization. For more information, check out The Ishmael Community web site. If you want to read a short introduction to the main ideas in Daniel Quinn's work, you can read his speech The New Renaissance.

I have compiled a list of fascinating places on the Web. You'll find links to sites on science fiction & fantasy; peace, justice & environmental issues; great apes; literature; magazines; humour; and more.
