Gone Baby Gone

{4.5/5} “Where I come from, you die with your secrets.”

Patrick and Angie are private detectives who have been hired to find a missing girl. The girl has been kidnapped and the police are doing everything they can to find her. But Patrick and Angie know everyone in the neighbourhood, and they might just be able to find a lead that the police haven’t been able to find. What they find leads them to a dangerous drug dealer who wants the money back that someone stole from him.

Gone Baby Gone was released in 2007.

I started watching Fantastic Planet but I found it pretty boring so I watched this instead.

This is a serious movie about a man who persists in an investigation when something doesn’t add up right. At the end he’s faced with a surprisingly difficult moral dilemma.

Everyone has justifications for their own actions, so who’s right and who’s wrong? This movie engages with this question in a more nuanced way than the average movie.

The music is by Harry Gregson-Williams (Unstoppable).

Casey Affleck (Ocean’s Eleven) plays Patrick and Michelle Monaghan (Mission: Impossible III) plays Angie. Ed Harris (The Way Back) plays a detective on the case and Morgan Freeman (The Magic of Belle Isle) plays his boss. Amy Madigan (That’s What I Am) and Titus Welliver (the TV show Lost) play the girl’s aunt and uncle.

The movie was directed by Ben Affleck (Argo).
