The Devil Wears Prada

{4.5/5} “Did someone eat an onion bagel?”

Andy, fresh out of school, goes to New York to be a magazine writer. The only job she can get is assistant at a fashion magazine. Even though she doesn’t know anything about fashion she’s whimsically hired by the editor, Miranda, who’s big in the fashion world and outrageously demanding. Andy vows to not let her get to her, and to work for her for a year — so then she can get the job she wants.

The Devil Wears Prada was released in 2006.

It’s about people who have chosen to make their work their life, including jumping every time the boss calls at any hour. For some people it’s a life to be envied, since they get to wear fancy clothes and hobnob with famous fashion designers. But is it the life that Andy wants?

Anne Hathaway is suitably nice and Meryl Streep is suitably imperious.

It’s a great movie — some parts are very funny.

The fun music is by Theodore Shapiro (Tropic Thunder). The song at the beginning is “Suddenly I See” by KT Tunstall.

Meryl Streep (Adaptation.) plays Miranda and Anne Hathaway (One Day) plays Andy. Emily Blunt (Your Sister’s Sister) plays Emily and Stanley Tucci (The Terminal) plays Nigel.

The movie was directed by David Frankel (Hope Springs).
