Theodore works at a company that creates handwritten letters that their clients get to send to their loved ones. Theodore has been writing the letters that some couples have sent to each other for years. Meanwhile his wife wants him to sign divorce papers. He gets a new operating system, OS1, which is an artificial intelligence. The AI calls herself Samantha, and Theodore and Samantha quickly develop a close relationship.

Her is currently in theatres.

It’s about artificial intelligence, and finding romance in an unexpected place.

The movie is tremendously thought provoking, and the future it depicts is intriguing.

The subtle music is by the band Arcade Fire.

Joaquin Phoenix (The Village) plays Theodore and Scarlett Johansson (Don Jon) voices Samantha. Amy Adams (Man of Steel) plays Theodore’s friend who lives in his building and Chris Pratt (The Lego Movie) plays his friend at work. Rooney Mara (Side Effects) plays Theodore’s soon-to-be ex-wife.

The movie was directed by Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich).
