Planet of the Apes: Cataclysm (3 volumes) by Corinna Bechko, Gabriel Hardman & Damian Couceiro, published in 2013-14

This set of graphic novels serves as a prequel to the original Planet of the Apes movie. Dr. Zaius, Cornelius, Zira, and the mutants all show up. One councillor decides that he must get rid of anyone who opposes him, whatever type of ape they may be. A scientist teaches sign language to a human, and later that human teaches it to other humans. After an unthinkable cataclysm devastates Ape City the chimpanzees are put to work — until they decide to go on strike. Like many comic books I found it a tiny bit hard to follow at times. But it’s a great story — with its own situations and characters, cleverly setting the stage for the movie. It even sheds new light on a couple of events in the movie.

I’d read the first volume before. I previously reviewed the first book in this set.
