Only Lovers Left Alive

{3.5/5} “How can you’ve lived for so long and still not get it? This self obsession is a waste of living. It could be spent in surviving things, appreciating nature, nurturing kindness and friendship, and dancing. You have been pretty lucky in love, though, if I may say so.”

Only Lovers Left Alive, released in 2013

Eve and Adam have been vampires for hundreds of years. Eve lives in Tangier, along with author Christopher Marlowe, and is mostly happy. Adam lives in Detroit, along with humans he calls “zombies,” and is mostly depressed. Eve knows many languages and reads a lot of books, while Adam loves music and occasionally writes some. But no matter what else they do, they still need blood to survive. There isn’t a lot of story here, but the movie does convey a certain mood. Tilda Swinton and Tom Hiddleston are mesmerizing. Directed by Jim Jarmusch.
