Patriot Games

{4/5} “I couldn’t just stand there and watch him shoot those people right in front of me. It was… rage. Pure rage… Just made me mad.”

Patriot Games, released in 1992

Jack Ryan used to be in the CIA and now he’s a professor. While on vacation in Britain he saves some members of the royal family who were being attacked by rogue elements of the IRA. Sean, one of the attackers, later escapes from police custody. Jack killed Sean’s brother in the attack, and now Sean is out for revenge. It has many elements of a great movie but somehow they didn’t quite add up to one. It does have an exciting ending, though. Harrison Ford and Sean Bean star. There’s some Irish-themed music from James Horner, as well as some distracting reuse of his music from Aliens.

Directed by Phillip Noyce (The Quiet American).

This is the second time I’ve seen it.

I previously reviewed the latest movie about Jack Ryan, Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
