My Week with Marilyn

{4.5/5} “Trying to teach Marilyn how to act is like teaching Urdu to a badger.”

My Week with Marilyn, released in 2011

Colin’s family all have serious jobs but he wants to be in the movie business. He goes to London and gets a job as third assistant director on a movie with Lawrence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn shows up late, forgets her lines, and refuses to act unless she understands her character’s motivations. Lawrence, who’s directing the movie, is fed up.

The movie is based on a true story, and takes place in 1956.

It’s about acting, fame, and choices. It’s very well done, and the performances are top notch.

Stars Michelle Williams and Kenneth Branagh. Directed by Simon Curtis (Goodbye Christopher Robin).
