Star Trek Beyond

Kirk is a bit tired of being in space and thinking of taking a vice admiral position. Spock, having found out that Ambassador Spock has died, thinks he should help out on New Vulcan. Before they get a chance to tell each other, the Enterprise is ambushed on a rescue mission. With the crew scattered on an alien planet, they must figure out how to stop Krall — who has a powerful bioweapon — from killing everyone on Starbase Yorktown and perhaps beyond.
This is the 3rd movie in the reboot series, following Star Trek Into Darkness. It’s not quite as good as the 1st one but better than the 2nd one.
What better way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of Star Trek than to see a new movie? Happily, they’re boldly going this time.
Highlights include
- Starbase Yorktown, an amazingly complex and beautiful stucture
- Kirk and Chekov working together to find the artifact Krall wants
- Spock and McCoy working together to find everybody else
- Sulu and Uhura working together to try to send a distress call
- Scotty and Jaylah working together to get Jaylah’s ship functional
- The scenery on the alien planet (which was filmed in British Columbia)
My only problem is that there were some things that went by too fast to catch. Particularly in some of the action scenes, it was difficult to tell exactly what was going on.
Stars Simon Pegg, John Cho, Anton Yelchin, and Idris Elba. Directed by Justin Lin (Fast Five). In the music Michael Giacchino refines his previous themes and boldly goes into new territory, some of it more like Jerry Goldsmith.
