Broken Flowers

{4.5/5} “I’m like your mistress, except you’re not even married.”

Broken Flowers, released in 2005

Don receives a letter claiming that he fathered a son 20 years ago. The letter is unsigned. His friend Winston encourages him to take a road trip and visit each of the women he was with around that time. Against his instinct, he goes on the trip — each of the women respond to his visit differently.

This movie isn’t laugh-out-loud funny, but many moments are subtly humorous. Bill Murray does a splendid job as Don.

It’s about big questions like what to do with your life and whether it needs changing.

Stars Jeffrey Wright, Sharon Stone, and Tilda Swinton. Directed by Jim Jarmusch (Only Lovers Left Alive). The jazzy music by Mulatu Astatke is terrific.

This is the 2nd time I’ve seen it.
