Zygote (volume 1)

{4/5} “I was born to die, Class Ones were born to live.”

Zygote volume 1, released in 2017

Quinn and Barklay, a synthetic, are all that’s left of a crew of 98. The creature who has killed everyone else is after them. When Quinn ran into the creature before there was a light that was so horrible he cut his own eyes out. Now he’s going to rely on Barklay to survive and get the word out about what happened.

This is another of Neill Blomkamp’s experiments — show you the first part of a series in the hopes that enough people will pay to see the next part. As usual, it’s a bit gruesome.

The acting will make you believe in the reality of the world. But once again there isn’t much time to explore it, so it’s tough to say that it’s a world you really want to spend more time in. Of the 3 videos he’s done so far, Rakka seems the most promising.

Some quality in the man’s voice or how it was recorded made it difficult to tell what he ways saying some of the time. But if you’re going to watch it, you have to do whatever you need to do to hear what he’s saying — he has the important lines.

Stars Dakota Fanning. Directed by Neill Blomkamp (Firebase).
