Mud
{4.5/5} “There are things you can get away with in this world and there are things you can’t.”
Ellis and Neckbone are young boys who live near the Mississippi River — they like to take their boat out to an uninhabited island. The island has a unique feature — a boat in a tree. One day they find a man who calls himself Mud living in the boat. Mud says he has to stay there to wait for his girlfriend Juniper and he could use their help with some food. Neckbone thinks he’s trouble but Ellis thinks they should help him out, so they do. Then Juniper shows up, and they discover that the police are looking for Mud.
Mud was released in 2012.
It’s about friendship and love, and helping people you feel deserve help.
Like the girls in Ginger & Rosa (which I watched yesterday) the boys in this movie are trying to do the right thing. They’re learning that people don’t always agree on what the right thing is.
This is a unique story, and you’re not sure what’s going to happen.
Tye Sheridan (The Tree of Life) plays Ellis and Jacob Lofland (his first movie) plays Neckbone.
Matthew McConaughey (Contact) plays Mud and Reese Witherspoon (Walk the Line) plays Juniper.
The movie was directed by Jeff Nichols (Take Shelter).
