Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

{4.5/5} “Apes not kill apes.”

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, released in 2014

Somehow I forgot to review this movie when I saw it, so I’m reviewing it now.

The apes and the humans have left each other alone for years. But one town of humans is fast running out of electricity and needs the power from the dam that’s in ape territory. The humans and the apes are able to make a deal, but there is mistrust on both sides.

This is the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes. The story is engaging, with more emphasis on the ape characters than in most movies in the series. The special effects are phenomenal — it was worth seeing in the theatre just for the hair on the apes.

Stars Andy Serkis and Gary Oldman. Directed by Matt Reeves. The music by Michael Giacchino has some rollicking sections.

A sequel, War of the Planet of the Apes, is forthcoming.
