Tomorrowland
{4.5/5} “I did it myself because I got tired of waiting for someone to do it for me.”
Tomorrowland, released in 2015
NASA is dismantling a launchpad and when they do Casey’s dad will be out of a job. Casey sneaks out at night to sabotage the dismantling equipment. After a brief visit to jail, she receives a pin that takes her to another place when she touches it. A place that looks like the future.
I enjoyed this movie immensely. As with Interstellar, I wanted to give the move 5/5 but couldn’t quite do it. The acting, visuals, and music are thrilling. It’s also very funny. The first part of the story is terrific, but then there are some problems of motive and plausibility. I encourage you to see it — even if you spot the issues sooner than I did I think it’ll put a smile on your face.
It seems like someone told them they needed to have good guys and bad guys shooting at each other to make an exciting movie — and that’s just not true, and didn’t really make sense in this movie.
The stars of the movie are the young actors — Britt Robertson as Casey, Raffey Cassidy as Athena, and Thomas Robinson as Frank. It’s directed by Brad Bird (Ratatouille). The music by Michael Giacchino is glorious — the most interesting soundtrack I’ve heard in a while.
