Pee-wee’s Big Holiday

{4.5/5} “That’s what I like about you, Pee-wee. You’re normal.”

Pee-wee’s Big Holiday, released in 2016

A motorcycle-riding actor named Joe comes into the diner where Pee-wee works and orders a milkshake. When the two of them get talking they realize they have some things in common. Joe invites Pee-wee to his birthday — in New York City in 5 days. Pee-wee has never left Fairville before, but he decides to take Joe’s advice and “live a little.” He meets some wacky characters along the way.

If you like Pee-wee Herman, you’ll like this movie. There are many funny moments. Some parts are pretty silly, but at least it’s internally consistent.

Pee-wee has forgotten the events of the other 2 movies, but maybe that’s understandable — they were around 30 years ago.

Paul Reubens is a genius, both as an actor and a writer.

Stars Paul Reubens and Alia Shawkat. Directed by John Lee (his first movie). The playful music is by Mark Mothersbaugh.

I previously reviewed Pee-wee’s Big Adventure.
