Hail, Caesar!

{4/5} “Would that it were so simple.”

Hail, Caesar! released in 2016

In the 1950s Eddie Mannix is a fixer at Capitol Pictures, a movie studio in Hollywood. He deals with all sorts of problems that the stars have, such as a women who’s having a baby with no husband. When Baird Whitlock is kidnapped by communists right before he’s needed on set for a big scene, Mannix is tempted to quit and go work for the airline industry.

It isn’t one of the funniest movies ever, but it is full of low-key humour. It’s also full of actors you know.

For some reason it doesn’t quite work as well as it should. But fans of the Coen brothers will want to take a look.

Stars George Clooney, Josh Brolin, Scarlett Johansson, and Tilda Swinton. Directed by the Coen brothers (Fargo).
