{4.5/5} “Behold the very first stage lit entirely by squid power!”

Sing, released in 2016

Buster Moon owns a theatre but his productions haven’t done well lately. In fact, the bank is about to foreclose on him. He comes up with one last idea — a singing competition. He was going to make the prize $1000 but due to an accident the ads say the prize is $100 000. He has some terrific singers, but they all have their own problems they’re worried about.

This is a charming and amusing movie. It’s about good old fashioned values like being true to yourself and working together.

The plot isn’t anything new but the characters and songs are delightful.

Stars the voices of Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon. Directed by Garth Jennings (The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy) and Christophe Lourdelet (story artist on Despicable Me 2). The soundtrack is filled with songs you know.
