A Monster Calls

{4/5} “Stories are wild creatures, Conor O’Malley. If you let them loose, who knows what havoc they may wreak.”

A Monster Calls, released in 2016

Conor is visited, possibly in his dreams, by a tree monster who demands that he listen to 3 stories — and then tell him one. The monster’s stories are true stories from the past — and he wants to hear about Conor’s nightmare. Meanwhile, Conor’s mother is very sick and his horrible grandmother is visiting.

Much of the movie is fairly sad.

The monster’s stories are animated in an interesting way.

It’s about family, stories, and the truth.

Young actor Lewis MacDougall does a tremendous job as Conor.

Stars Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones, and the voice of Liam Neeson. Directed by J.A. Bayona (The Impossible). The music is by Fernando Velázquez.
