Her

{5/5} “I can understand how the limited perspective of an unartificial mind would perceive it that way.”

Her, released in 2013

Theodore works at a company that writes letters for people. On the street everyone is in their own little world, using their ear buds to do things they used to do on their phones in the old days. Theodore has been sad for a while, since he and his wife split up. When a new artificially intelligent operating system is announced, he signs up and connects with it in a way he never imagined.

It’s about relationships — romantic and friendships. It’s full of interesting ideas.

The actors are all astonishing, throwing themselves into the unusual material.

One more quotation: “The past is just a story we tell ourselves.”

Stars Joaquin Phoenix and the voice of Scarlett Johansson. Directed by Spike Jonze (Being John Malkovich). The gentle music is by Arcade Fire.

This is the 2nd time I’ve seen it. My previous review is here.
