Away (season 1)

{5/5} “The three-quarter mark is the hardest part of the journey… You and I are aware of that; we have no idea how it feels. Emma’s 20 million miles from the people she loves.”

Away season 1, aired in 2020

Emma is commander of the first mission to Mars, launching from the base on the Moon. She leads an international team of five, and has left her husband and daughter behind on Earth. Her husband Matt will be in Mission Control. There was an incident involving a fire on the way to the Moon, and Mission Control is asking everyone individually about what happened.

It’s about the thrills and dangers of exploration. It’s about the relationship between the astronauts, and between them and their families.

In terms of the mood, things go wrong on a regular basis like in Lost in Space.

The visuals are top notch.

It was cancelled after one season — this leaves the story they wanted to tell unfinished but it’s still worth watching.

Stars Hilary Swank, Josh Charles, Gabrielle Rose, and Martin Cummins.

Created by Andrew Hinderaker (Let the Right One In).
