Gattaca

{5/5} “If you’re going to pretend like you don’t care, don’t look up.”

Gattaca, released in 1997

Vincent is on track to go into space — to Titan. But he does a lot of extra things every day that people don’t know about to ensure that happens. His DNA is genetically inferior, so he makes a deal to take DNA samples from a superior man. Jerome has top notch DNA, but he’s in a wheelchair. With the samples from Jerome, Vincent can pursue his dream.

This movie is a masterpiece, with stylish visuals and a gripping story.

It’s about people who think people with better DNA are better people, and people who resist that notion.

I like how Vincent’s doctor informs him that he knows what the deal is by telling him a story about his son.

Stars Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Jude Law, and Alan Arkin. Directed by Andrew Niccol (In Time). The stunning music is by Michael Nyman.

This is the 3rd or 4th time I’ve seen it.
