Enns says in the program that the &#8220;concert is inspired by the physical immensity of the land&#8221; of Canada.<\/p>\n<p>The choir was joined by Catherine Robertson on piano (*) and Lance Ouellette on violin (+) for certain pieces.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Northern Lights &#8212; Eriks E\u0161envalds<\/li>\n<li>I saw eternity &#8212; Leonard Enns<\/li>\n<li>Earth My Song &#8212; Kirke Mechem*<\/li>\n<li>Mid-Winter Songs &#8212; Morton Lauridsen*<\/li>\n<li>This Fragile Web &#8212; Christine Donkin*+<\/li>\n<li>Stars &#8212; Eriks E\u0161envalds<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the first and last pieces several choir members played water glasses (created resonance by rubbing their finger around the rim of a glass with a certain amount of water in it).<\/p>\n<p>My favourite piece was Lauridsen&#8217;s &#8220;Mid-Winter Songs.&#8221; From the program: &#8220;Lauridsen&#8217;s approach here, in this relatively early work, is near Benjamin Britten-ish, and altogether captivating in its musical reading of this marvelous poetry by Robert Graves.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I previously reviewed DaCapo&#8217;s concert &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2016\/11\/dacapo-chamber-choirs-threshold-of-night\/\">Threshold of Night<\/a>.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I attended DaCapo Chamber Choir&#8217;s concert &#8220;Mid-Winter Songs.&#8221; As always, the choir is directed by Leonard Enns.
