The submarine sank and the survivors were murdered. But a satellite interfered with the submarine’s GPS signal so it wasn’t where they thought it was. M sends James Bond to investigate Elliott Carver, head of the company that owns that satellite.

The opening scene is superb. I like how M defends Bond to the others assembled in this scene.

My favourite character is Chinese agent Wai Lin, played by the glorious Michelle Yeoh. Joe Don Baker’s character Jack Wade also makes a welcome return.

Although the story is decent, it doesn’t quite live up to its immediate predecessor, GoldenEye.

It has some great stunts. Some scenes were filmed in Thailand.

Stars Pierce Brosnan and Jonathan Pryce. Directed by Roger Spottiswoode (Shoot to Kill). The terrific music is by David Arnold. The title song by Sheryl Crow isn’t very interesting — the end credits song by k.d. lang is better.

This is probably the 2nd time I’ve seen it.

I previously reviewed GoldenEye.

{4/5} “It’s mostly dull routine, of course, but every now and then you get to sail on a beautiful evening like this.
