Magic Kingdom For Sale — Sold!<\/strong> by Terry Brooks, published in 1986<\/p>\n Ben Holiday lost his wife a couple of years ago and he’s tired of this life. When he sees an ad for a magical kingdom for $1 million he decides to check it out. While not really believing until he gets there, he goes along with it because he has nothing to lose. Arriving in Landover he’s crowned king but the current state of the kingdom leaves a lot to be desired.<\/p>\n Terry Brooks was one of the first fantasy authors I read. I enjoyed his books very much but I haven’t read any in a long time. So it was time to see how they held up.<\/p>\n This one isn’t bad, but it’s not as interesting as I expected. Certainly the second half is more interesting than the first.<\/p>\n Much of the book is an introduction to this world, and I’ve already been introduced to it — however long ago. On the other hand my memory of it was extremely vague.<\/p>\n I like that Ben uses logic to solve his problems. Most of the people and creatures he meets have plausible motivations. It’s a mostly light-hearted adventure about friendship, determination, and hard work.<\/p>\n This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.<\/p>\n I’ve read 6 of Brooks’ books, all the ones he’d written at the time I read them.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" {4\/5} “Sterling Silver, like Landover, is in need of a King.
