Elaine almost becomes the first female President of the United States, but she loses the Democratic nomination to Paul. Elaine’s husband Bud used to be the President. So far it sounds an awful lot like the Clintons but then things diverge from reality. As they should — this is fiction.<\/p>\n
Elaine has two sons. One is a key member of her staff who’s about to get married to a seemingly perfect woman. The other has a drug problem and once tried to kill himself. Paul becomes the President and asks Elaine to be Secretary of State — and when the President asks you to serve, you serve.<\/p>\n
Sigourney Weaver (Aliens<\/strong>, Gorillas in the Mist<\/strong>) stars in a TV show? Of course I’ll watch that. Political Animals<\/strong> is a new show that’s supposed to have 6 episodes in total.<\/p>\n Sigourney Weaver plays Elaine — she has a commanding presence and it’s a joy to watch her. Her character is nuanced and surrounded by other interesting characters. The solution to the diplomatic crisis that came up was clever. I liked this premiere a lot — it definitely makes me want to watch more of the show.<\/p>\n Carla Gugino (the TV show Threshold<\/strong>) plays a reporter who matches wits with Elaine on more than one occasion. Ellen Burstyn (Requiem for a Dream<\/strong>) plays Elaine’s mother. Adrian Pasdar (the TV show Heroes<\/strong>) plays Paul, the President.
