When they start to play it they’re sucked into the world of the game. They don’t look like themselves any more — they look like the characters they chose. And they all have unique strengths and weaknesses. It seems like they’ll have to finish the game to get back to real life — but what happens if they die in the game?

This movie is disappointingly mediocre. Normally I don’t watch movies like this to the end. For some reason I kept saying to myself, “Something interesting must be about to happen.”

It’s intermittently amusing, and the whole video game aspect was quite clever.

Stars Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, and Karen Gillan. Directed by Jake Kasdan (Zero Effect). The music by Henry Jackman didn’t stand out.

The rating for this movie on IMDb is inflated (other inflated ratings include the Star Wars prequels and the Pirates of the Caribbean sequels). In particular, the number of people who gave it 10/10 is startling — I’m guessing those people have a very different sense of humour than me.

{3.5/5} “Does ‘phone’ mean something different in the future?” Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, released in 2017 Four high school kids in detention come across a Jumanji video game.
