What is a beach to us but a place from which to launch ourselves at the future?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Infinity Beach<\/strong> by Jack McDevitt, published in 2000<\/p>\n<p>Humans were creating 6 novas at 60 day intervals &#8212; a message to anyone who might be out in the universe watching. Kim worked for the company that was creating the novas, but her heart wasn&#8217;t in it. Then an old professor of hers calls, saying he knows something about her sister&#8217;s disappearance &#8212; and about the existence of aliens.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s about doing whatever it takes to solve a mystery. It&#8217;s also about the lengths people will go to cover up events they find humiliating.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a great science fiction story with a fabulous ending.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve read 5 books by McDevitt.
