When Data’s homing beacon is activated by Dr. Noonien Soong he finally meets his father — and sees his brother Lore again. Wesley leaves the ship to enter Starfleet Academy. When civil war breaks out in the Klingon Empire, Worf leaves the ship to fight on the side of Gowron.

It’s another brilliant season, in which the Star Trek universe is expanded in terms of its societies (Klingons, Cardassians) and the types of episodes that can exist (visiting family on Earth, alien point of view).

One more quotation: “You talk like a Ferengi.” — K’Ehleyr to Gowron

And one more quotation: “It’s not you I hate, Cardassian. I hate what I became, because of you.” — Miles O’Brien

And just one more quotation: “Perhaps there is something wrong with you!” — Data, to his new girlfriend

In “Reunion” K’Ehleyr returns to show Worf that he has a son — meanwhile, K’mpec wants Picard to choose the next Klingon leader after he dies. In “Future Imperfect” Riker finds himself 16 years in the future, when he is captain and has a son. In “The Wounded” Picard pursues a Starfleet captain who has destroyed Cardassian ships even though the war is long over. In “Half a Life” a scientist named Timicin is working on saving his world’s sun, and meanwhile he and Lwaxana Troi have begun a relationship. In “The Mind’s Eye” Geordi is brainwashed by Romulans in order to kill a Klingon governor.

One episode that was disappointing was “In Theory,” in which Data has a romantic relationship. Much of it seemed like a step back from him — I felt like he could have been more nuanced.

Guest stars include Robert O’Reilly, Saul Rubinek, and David Ogden Stiers.

Stars Wil Wheaton, Whoopi Goldberg, and Colm Meaney.

This is the 2nd time I’ve seen it.

I previously reviewed season 3.

{5/5} “If there’s nothing wrong with me, maybe there’s something wrong with the universe.” — Dr. Beverly Crusher Star Trek: The Next Generation season 4, aired in 1990-91 When the Enterprise is unable to destroy the Borg ship, Riker must find a new plan — one that Picard isn’t aware of.
