When Amanda Rogers comes aboard she thinks she’s a human but she’s really a Q. When Captain Picard leads a clandestine mission in Cardassian space he gets captured — meanwhile, Captain Jellico assumes command of the Enterprise. When Barclay examines the Sherlock Holmes program on the holodeck, he finds Professor Moriarty — who knows about the Enterprise and demands to leave the holodeck.

The writers would always wait a few months before writing the conclusion to a season-ending cliffhanger — which sometimes worked for them, but in general is a bad idea. The season 6 and 7 part 2s are significantly less interesting than the season 4 and 5 part 2s.

They tried some different things this season. Not all were completely successful, but every episode has something to like.

Although we don’t see Mot the barber too often, he’s a welcome addition to the crew. My favourite poem of the season is “Ode to Spot.”

One more quotation: “Would you like to talk about what’s bothering you, or would you like to break some more furniture?” — Troi, to Worf

In “Face of the Enemy” Deanna wakes up on board a Romulan ship — and she’s been surgically altered to look like a Romulan. In “Tapestry” Q gives Captain Picard a chance to fix a mistake he made in his youth. In the 2-part “Birthright” Data dreams and Worf finds a village where Klingons and Romulans are living together. In “Lessons” Captain Picard falls for the head of stellar cartography who shares his love of music.

Guest stars include Jerry Hardin, Ronny Cox, and David Warner. Stephen Hawking makes a brief appearance when Data includes him in a poker game on the holodeck. The ultimate guest star, James Doohan, reprises his role of Scotty from TOS.

This is the 2nd time I’ve seen it.

I previously reviewed season 5.

{5/5} “Looks like Sheriff Worf’s here to arrest me.” Star Trek: The Next Generation season 6, aired in 1992-93 When the Enterprise encounters a Dyson Sphere, and a ship that crashed on it, they find someone who has been stuck in the transporter for 75 years — Montgomery Scott.
