Soul<\/strong>, released in 2020<\/p>\n Joe is a middle school band teacher, but he really wants to play jazz piano. On the day he gets a gig with one of his idols, he falls down a manhole. He finds himself on the path to the great beyond, but he manages to jump off. Now in the land where souls get their characteristics before they’re born, he hatches a plan to return to his body on Earth.<\/p>\n This Pixar movie has gorgeous animation, of course. The land of souls is imaginative, and the story is delightful.<\/p>\n It’s about zest for life. It’s about what happens when it’s your first day in a new body.<\/p>\n I’m not a huge fan of Picasso, but the Picasso-like nature of the soul counsellors worked very well.<\/p>\n Stars the voices of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, and Richard Ayoade. Directed by Pete Docter (Inside Out<\/strong><\/a>) and Kemp Powers (writer on Star Trek: Discovery<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n The glorious jazz music is by Jon Batiste.
