Bruce Wayne is trying to put together a group of metahumans to battle the next great foe, but Arthur Currie says no. Meanwhile, Steppenwolf has appeared at Themyscira to steal its Mother Box — he’s now on his way to get the two others, so he can conquer the Earth. Astonishingly, this cut is 4 hours long with apparently no footage that was shot by Joss Whedon. I previously reviewed the Joss Whedon cut.

I saw the original 5 years ago. I’m not sure what I would say if I compared them back to back, but here’s what I think watching this one now.

Visually, it’s very good. I appreciated a bunch of scenes, but I was also a bit impatient with it. For one thing, there’s an absurd amount of slow motion. I essentially knew what was going to happen — scenes might have been shot in a different way, and there’s more back story. There’s some way over the top action.

There are certainly some terrific parts, with some great actors. There are a couple of surprises at the end.

It’s about what happens when you work together.

If you haven’t seen the original and you like these characters, you might want to watch this version.

Stars Henry Cavill, Ray Fisher, Ezra Miller, Joe Morton, Jeremy Irons, Connie Nielsen, Amy Adams, and Diane Lane. Thomas Holkenborg’s score is sombre with flourishes of intensity for action scenes, with his own Wonder Woman theme and Hans Zimmer’s Man of Steel theme.

The previous movie in the DCEU I watched is Wonder Woman 1984.

{4/5} “Maybe a man who broods in a cave for a living isn’t cut out to be a recruiter, hmm?” Zack Snyder’s Justice League, released in 2021 Superman is dead.
