Her daughter wants to know if she can bring her girlfriend to the party, and her husband wants a divorce. She’s also having some trouble with a difficult IRS agent. Then she runs into some other version of her husband — who claims to be from another universe where there is a great evil that only she can help destroy.

It’s about a multiverse where every decision ends up splitting off a new universe.

I didn’t care for some of the sillier aspects, like the universe where everyone has hot dogs for fingers. There are also a few distasteful moments.

The 1st part of the movie was serious, so when silly things started happening that caught me off guard. Doing something unexpected to get yourself into another universe belongs in something funny like The Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, and I would have preferred something different here.

I applaud the filmmakers for doing something different — it’s very imaginative. It has a nice message.

The beginning and end are brilliant — against those, the middle is a bit jarring.

Ke Huy Quan, from The Goonies and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, rejoins the acting world after 20 years.

Stars Michelle Yeoh, James Hong, and Jamie Lee Curtis.
