Neither Picard nor any of the old Enterprise crew have heard from Dr. Beverly Crusher in 20 years. But now he’s gotten an encoded message from her asking for his help — and she says not to involve Starfleet. Picard knows the first person he must contact is William T. Riker.

This is the final season.

It is, as the writers designed, a glorious sendoff for the Next Generation characters. A spinoff could easily be done, and it’s been set up perfectly in the finale.

There is a bit of oddness here and there, like in the dialogue between Picard and Ro. A couple of characters appear that really shouldn’t — just because a character is great doesn’t mean you should bring them back from the dead. But overall, the story is magnificent and the finale is joyous.

The storyline is better than tlast season, and there are many beautiful moments between characters you love.

The music of Jerry Goldsmith is incorporated, by Stephen Barton, in a way that is stunningly beautiful. James Horner’s music is strongly suggested in the theme for the end credits. Barton has some beautiful music of his own in episode 4 when the space babies are born.

Guest stars include Michelle Forbes, Tim Russ, Daniel Davis, Elizabeth Dennehy, Alice Krige, Orla Brady, and the voices of Walter Koenig and Majel Barrett.

Stars Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, Amanda Plummer, Todd Stashwick, and Ed Speleers.

I previously reviewed season 2.

{5/5} “You’re only ever really as good as those around you.
