Meat and potatoes, I live in the real world. Not a big believer in magic. But this place&#8230; is different, it&#8217;s special.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A plane crashes on a possibly deserted island in the middle of the Pacific. Because the plane turned around, rescuers will be looking in the wrong place. There&#8217;s a huge beast in the forest, there&#8217;s a radio broadcast calling for help that&#8217;s been going for 16 years, and one of the survivors is an escaped criminal.<\/p>\n<p>Among the survivors are\u00a0a caring doctor,\u00a0a woman who wants to start over, a musician who&#8217;s addicted to drugs, a\u00a0man who used to be in the military\u00a0who&#8217;s good with electronics, a couple who don&#8217;t speak English, a woman who&#8217;s very pregnant, and a man who brought a suitcase full of knives.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lost<\/strong> season 1 originally aired in 2004-05.<\/p>\n<p>The show starts out after the plane crashed and flashes back to what some characters were doing on the plane, providing additional insight into who they are. Eventually the flashbacks go back further, showing us a particular character&#8217;s background in\u00a0each episode the way that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2012\/05\/once-upon-a-time-season-1\/\"><strong>Once Upon a Time<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0does. It&#8217;s gripping right from the very beginning &#8212; you always want to know what happens next.<\/p>\n<p>Although it&#8217;s a fairly serious show in general, it&#8217;s not grim like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2012\/11\/stargate-universe-season-2\/\"><strong>Stargate Universe<\/strong><\/a> &#8212; there are funny moments.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a large cast of characters, but we care about all of them.<\/p>\n<p>The show is filmed in beautiful Hawaii.<\/p>\n<p>The mysterious music is by Michael Giacchino (<strong>Up<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>Dominic Monaghan (<strong>The Lord of the Rings<\/strong>) plays Charlie and Terry O&#8217;Quinn (<strong>The X-Files<\/strong>) plays Locke. Daniel Dae Kim (the TV show <strong>Crusade<\/strong>) plays Jin and Emilie de Ravin (the TV show <strong>Once Upon a Time<\/strong>) plays Claire.<\/p>\n<p>Matthew Fox (the TV show <strong>Party of Five<\/strong>) plays Jack and Evangeline Lilly (<strong>Real Steel<\/strong>) plays Kate. Josh Holloway (<strong>Mission: Impossible &#8212; Ghost Protocol<\/strong>) plays Sawyer and Naveen Andrews (<strong>The English Patient<\/strong>)\u00a0plays Sayid.<\/p>\n<p>Guest stars include Robert Patrick (the TV show <strong>The X-Files<\/strong>), Mira Furlan (the TV show <strong>Babylon 5<\/strong>)\u00a0and William Mapother (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2012\/03\/another-earth\/\"><strong>Another Earth<\/strong><\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The show was created by J.J.
