Chris owes money that he can’t pay, to someone who will kill him. He learns that his mother, whom everyone hates, has a life insurance policy whose beneficiary is his sister Dottie. Chris hires Joe to kill his mother. Chris’s father Ansel, Ansel’s wife Sharla, and Dottie are all in on the scheme. Joe’s usual policy is to be paid upfront — since they can’t do that he will take Dottie as a “retainer.”<\/p>\n
Killer Joe<\/strong> was released in 2011.<\/p>\n It’s a dark comedy in the vein of Drowning Mona<\/strong> — at least, it starts out that way. I liked the characters and the first part of the movie was interesting, but it got more and more disturbing as it went along.<\/p>\n When Joe doesn’t get paid because of a false assumption, he takes it out on the people he holds responsible. There’s some violence that I really didn’t want to watch.<\/p>\n This is a great collection of actors. Matthew McConaughey (EDtv<\/strong>) plays Joe, Emile Hirsch (The Girl Next Door<\/strong>) plays Chris, Juno Temple (Atonement<\/strong>) plays Dottie, Thomas Haden Church (Sideways<\/strong>) plays Ansel, and Gina Gershon (Bound<\/strong>) plays Sharla.<\/p>\n The movie was directed by William Friedkin (The French Connection<\/strong>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" {2.5\/5} “Your eyes hurt.” Chris owes money that he can’t pay, to someone who will kill him.
