To their surprise, the theme park has real live dinosaurs in it — made from dinosaur DNA found in amber mixed with modern amphibian DNA. Unfortunately, while they’re on the tour things go horribly wrong. Dinosaurs break free, and people start dying.

Jurassic Park was released in 1993. I saw it, probably for the third or fourth time, in the theatre in 3D.

As usual with 3D movies I felt that I would have enjoyed it equally if I’d seen it in 2D. There was nothing wrong with the 3D — it just doesn’t add anything significant to a movie (unless that movie is Avatar).

I’m a fan of dinosaurs, and I do like seeing them on the big screen. The special effects, a combination of animatronics and computer graphics, hold up very well.

At first it’s about science and technology and then it turns into a monster movie. There are a lot of close calls — both with adults and kids.

When the power is out, who will emerge on top — humans or velociraptors?

I like the movie a lot — there’s a bit of humour, and there are exciting sequences where the humans are in grave danger.

I love the majestic music when you see the dinosaurs for the first time. The soundtrack is one of my favourites from John Williams (Star Wars, Superman).

Sam Neill (The Dish) plays Alan Grant, Laura Dern (October Sky) plays Ellie Sattler, and Jeff Goldblum (The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou) plays Ian Malcolm. Richard Attenborough (The Great Escape) plays John Hammond. Samuel L. Jackson (The Avengers), BD Wong (the TV show Law & Order: SVU), and Wayne Knight (the TV show Seinfeld) are also along for the ride.

The movie was directed by Steven Spielberg (Jaws, Raiders of the Lost Ark).

The fourth movie in the series is coming out next year.

{4.5/5} “We spared no expense.” Alan, Ellie, and Ian are three scientists who are invited to give their expert opinions on a new theme park that’s getting ready to open.
