Michael Straczynski, published in Feb. 1991<\/p>\n<p>The Enterprise is in orbit of a planet that&#8217;s about to implode &#8212; everyone has been evacuated that they&#8217;re just taking readings. Then a life form shows up on the surface, and they beam down to check it out. His name is Rell, he&#8217;s from the planet, he knows he&#8217;s going to die, and that&#8217;s what he wants. He uses his telepathy to show Kirk, Spock, and McCoy the history of his planet. When he disappears, Kirk sets out to find him &#8212; he&#8217;s still planning on convincing him to leave.<\/p>\n<p>A story told in one issue is a pretty short story, but Straczynski and the artists manage to convey something with more depth.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve read a bunch of graphic novels and comic books by Straczynski.
