Kirk was a lieutenant he was part of a team that concluded that Modala would likely be ready for Federation membership in 10 years. Now he’s the captain and it’s 10 years later — he and Chekov are beaming down to see what things are like. Kirk is startled to find a tyrannical regime in charge and people are scared — and some people are fighting back.

It’s about learning your way around a starship, and a planet. It’s about a different way of rebelling other than killing.

This is a good one for Chekov fans. There’s a very nice conversation between Uhura and Yeoman Mears.

The artwork by Pablo Marcos is a bit more stylized than previous artwork, but it’s still good.

It comes to a conclusion with just a hint that there could be more — there’s a TNG follow-up to this miniseries.

This is the 2nd time I’ve read it.

I’ve read 19 of Friedman’s novels plus a bunch of comic books.
