We follow George through his interactions with various people on a day when he&#8217;s made a momentous decision. His relationship with Jim is told in a series of flashbacks. George is a literature professor, but in the middle of today&#8217;s lecture he launches into a discussion of minorities and fear. It&#8217;s 1962 so everyone&#8217;s worried about the Cold War.<\/p>\n<p>This isn&#8217;t the movie for you if you&#8217;re looking for car chases and explosions. In fact, it proceeds fairly slowly for a modern movie &#8212; George is stopping to smell the roses, as it were.<\/p>\n<p>Colin Firth (King George VI in <strong>The King&#8217;s Speech<\/strong>) plays George, and carries the movie as he&#8217;s in every scene. Julianne Moore (the woman who doesn&#8217;t go blind in <strong>Blindness<\/strong>) plays Charley, his friend and former lover &#8212; she&#8217;s fabulous as always. Ginnifer Goodwin (Snow White in the TV show <strong>Once Upon a Time<\/strong>) has a small role as a neighbour.
