Rumpelstiltskin is also there but he&#8217;s gone off on his own &#8212; he&#8217;s not much of a team player. Everyone wants Henry, including Peter Pan &#8212; who has an army of Lost Boys to help him. Meanwhile Neil is in the Enchanted Forest with Mulan and Robin Hood &#8212; he&#8217;s looking for something magical in his father Rumpelstiltskin&#8217;s castle to help him return to Emma and the others.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Once Upon a Time<\/strong> season 3 just finished.<\/p>\n<p>The scenes set in the past in the Enchanted Forest continue to be enthralling. The scenes in the present are a bit less so.<\/p>\n<p>We find out more about Rumpelstiltskin&#8217;s past, including his relationship with his father. We also find out the origin of Peter Pan. The Pan story had its moments but it wasn&#8217;t my favourite arc.<\/p>\n<p>Other new characters who show up are Ariel the mermaid and Medusa the gorgon.<\/p>\n<p>A fairly surprising turn of events happens mid-way through the season.*<\/p>\n<p>The episodes after the hiatus were a remarkable return to form &#8212; I felt like we were back in the first season. We&#8217;re introduced to a fun new enemy &#8212; the Wicked Witch of the West.<\/p>\n<p>The retelling of Dorothy&#8217;s visit to Oz was terrific &#8212; her throwing water on the Witch made much more sense here than in the movie.<\/p>\n<p>In the last seconds of the season finale, I was happy to see who will be joining the fun next season.**<\/p>\n<p>Rebecca Mader (the TV show <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2013\/02\/lost-season-5\/\"><strong>Lost<\/strong><\/a>) plays Zelena \/ the Wicked Witch.<\/p>\n<p>Michael Raymond-James (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2013\/10\/jack-reacher\/\"><strong>Jack Reacher<\/strong><\/a>) plays Baelfire \/ Neal and Keegan Connor Tracy (the TV show <strong>Bates Motel<\/strong>) plays the Blue Fairy \/ Mother Superior. Beverley Elliott (the TV show <strong>Kingdom Hospital<\/strong>) plays Granny.<\/p>\n<p>Robbie Kay (<strong>Fugitive Pieces<\/strong>) plays Peter Pan and Rose McIver (<strong>The Lovely Bones<\/strong>) plays Tinkerbell. Joanna Garc\u00eda-Swisher (the TV show <strong>Reba<\/strong>) plays Ariel and Freya Tingley (the TV show <strong>Hemlock Grove<\/strong>) plays Wendy Darling.<\/p>\n<p>I previously reviewed <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2013\/05\/once-upon-a-time-season-2\/\">season 2<\/a>. There was a spinoff this year as well &#8212; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2014\/04\/once-upon-a-time-in-wonderland-season-1\/\"><strong>Once Upon a Time in Wonderland<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spoiler alert<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>*A main character dies, two characters are separated from the rest, and a whole year passes in an instant (the only other show that I know of that did something like the last was <strong>Battlestar Galactica<\/strong>).<\/p>\n<p>**Elsa, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2014\/03\/frozen\/\"><strong>Frozen<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{4.5\/5} &#8220;A lifetime of craven self interest is a nasty habit that you&#8217;ve never been able to break.&#8221; Emma, Snow, Charming, Regina, and Hook are in Neverland looking for Henry.
