They took our children and the canned goods and pasta.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Joe is tired of his father telling him what to do. When he stumbles on a perfect spot in a nearby forest, he comes up with an audacious plan: he will build his own house and live in it. His friend Patrick is similarly tired of his parents and joins him. Biaggio, a guy they don&#8217;t know very well but has been hanging around, is also in on the action. They draw up a plan, scrounge up supplies, and start building.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Kings of Summer<\/strong> was released in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>The three main kids are normal teenagers who sometimes do things they shouldn&#8217;t and are often annoyed by their parents.<\/p>\n<p>Once they start living in their new house they goof around, argue, and learn some things about life.<\/p>\n<p>The parents in this movie are hilarious &#8212; unless you happen to be their children, in which case they would be extremely annoying.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a nice little movie about growing up, with some very funny parts. It has elements of movies like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2012\/07\/stand-by-me\/\">Stand By Me<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/moonrise-kingdom\/\">Moonrise Kingdom<\/a> but it&#8217;s worth watching.<\/p>\n<p>The soundtrack is full of pop songs.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Robinson (the TV show <strong>Melissa &amp; Joey<\/strong>) plays Joe and Gabriel Basso (the TV show <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2012\/06\/the-big-c-season-3\/\"><strong>The Big C<\/strong><\/a>) plays Patrick. Moises Arias (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2013\/11\/enders-game\/\"><strong>Ender&#8217;s Game<\/strong><\/a>) plays Biaggio.<\/p>\n<p>Nick Offerman (the TV show <a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2012\/12\/parks-and-recreation-season-2\/\"><strong>Parks and Recreation<\/strong><\/a>) plays Joe&#8217;s dad and\u00a0Megan Mullally (the TV show <strong>Will &amp; Grace<\/strong>) plays Patrick&#8217;s mom. Mary Lynn Rajskub (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2013\/01\/safety-not-guaranteed\/\"><strong>Safety Not Guaranteed<\/strong><\/a>) plays a police officer.<\/p>\n<p>The movie was directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (the TV show <strong>Mash Up<\/strong>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{4.5\/5} &#8220;You&#8217;re right, it&#8217;s a classic kidnapping.
