I want Jake from &#8216;Sixteen Candles&#8217; waiting outside the church for me. I want Judd Nelson thrusting his fist into the air because he knows he got me. Just once I want my life to be like an 80&#8217;s movie, preferably one with a really awesome musical number for no apparent reason. But no, no, John Hughes did not direct my life. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Olive tells her best friend a lie about what she did on the weekend, but they&#8217;re overheard by a girl who spreads the rumour all over school. Now she&#8217;s known for something she didn&#8217;t do. She finds it ironic that they&#8217;re studying <strong>The Scarlet Letter<\/strong> but decides to experiment with her new persona. A few people, including her parents, know she&#8217;s a good kid but most people believe the rumours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Easy A<\/strong> was released in 2010.<\/p>\n<p>It has a bit of a different vibe than usual high school movies. Olive is different than a standard movie high school student, and her parents are different from standard movie parents.<\/p>\n<p>Emma Stone is delightful, and Patricia Clarkson and Stanley Tucci are screamingly funny.<\/p>\n<p>Olive comes up with a 21st century solution to her problem.<\/p>\n<p>The soundtrack is populated by some great pop songs.<\/p>\n<p>Emma Stone (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2014\/01\/crazy-stupid-love\/\"><strong>Crazy, Stupid, Love.<\/strong><\/a>) plays Olive and Aly Michalka (the TV show <strong>Hellcats<\/strong>) plays her best friend Rhiannon. Patricia Clarkson (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2013\/09\/the-east\/\"><strong>The East<\/strong><\/a>) and Stanley Tucci (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/the-devil-wears-prada\/\"><strong>The Devil Wears Prada<\/strong><\/a>) play Olive&#8217;s parents.<\/p>\n<p>Malcolm McDowell\u00a0(<strong>Star Trek Generations<\/strong>) plays the principal, and Thomas Haden Church (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2013\/12\/we-bought-a-zoo\/\"><strong>We Bought a Zoo<\/strong><\/a>) and Lisa Kudrow (the TV show <strong>Friends<\/strong>) play teachers.<\/p>\n<p>The movie was directed by Will Gluck (<strong>Friends with Benefits<\/strong>).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>{4.5\/5} &#8220;Whatever happened to chivalry?
