But the real universe is always one step beyond logic.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Dune <\/strong>by Frank Herbert, published in 1965<\/p>\n<p>Paul moves with his family to a new planet, Arrakis. The Emperor has decided that Paul&#8217;s father Duke Leto Atreides should rule this planet instead of Baron Harkonnen. But the Baron has someone on the inside who&#8217;s going to kill the Duke. Meanwhile the Bene Gesserit have been working for millenia to produce special offspring &#8212; Paul just might be one. It&#8217;s certainly a tremendous accomplishment, but it didn&#8217;t wow me quite as much as I expected. I loved the historical and ecological aspects. There are a few things left unexplained.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second time I&#8217;ve read it &#8212; I was a bit surprised how familiar the story was given I read it around 25 years ago.
