Modern Family<\/strong> seasons 1 – 3, aired in 2009-12<\/p>\n Jay (Ed O’Neill) is a grandfather but has married a younger woman, Gloria (Sof\u00eda Vergara), and now is a stepfather to her son Manny (Rico Rodriguez). Jay’s daughter Claire (Julie Bowen) has a husband, Phil (Ty Burrell), and three kids — Haley (Sarah Hyland), Alex (Ariel Winter), and Luke (Nolan Gould). Claire’s brother Mitchell (Jesse Tyler Ferguson) has a partner, Cam (Eric Stonestreet), and an adopted daughter, Lily.<\/p>\n Amazingly, every episode is laugh-out-loud funny. Each character has their own quirks, and they all regularly get into absurd situations. Phil is probably the funniest character — although an adult, he often acts like a kid.<\/p>\n The show is partially filmed like a documentary — in part of each episode one or two characters are sitting and talking to the camera. That might sound strange, but it works very well.<\/p>\n Ed O’Neill is, of course, famous for Married With Children<\/strong> — I didn’t see much of that show but I did think he was excellent in Dragnet<\/strong>. I know Julie Bowen from Boston Legal<\/strong>. All the other main actors are new to me. Guest stars include Shelley Long as Jay’s ex-wife, Fred Willard as Phil’s dad, and Nathan Lane as a friend of Cam and Mitchell’s.<\/p>\n The series was created by Steven Levitan (creator of Just Shoot Me!<\/strong>) and Christopher Lloyd (not the actor, writer and executive producer of such shows as Frasier<\/strong>).<\/p>\n This is the last of the current fall-to-spring TV series that I’m watching. As for current summer TV series, I’m watching The Big C<\/strong> and America’s Got Talent<\/strong> — and I will undoubtedly watch Awkward.<\/strong> and The Glee Project<\/strong> when they return.
