New Girl<\/strong> season 1, aired in 2011-12<\/p>\n Jess (Zooey Deschanel) just broke up with her boyfriend and finds a new place — with three guys. Nick (Jake M. Johnson), Winston (Lamorne Morris), and Schmidt (Max Greenfield). Jess is an elementary school teacher who’s very quirky — for example, she’s been known to randomly break into song. Nick is a slacker working as a bartender, Winston just got back from playing basketball overseas, and Schmidt is a businessman and ladies’ man.<\/p>\n Then there’s Cece (Hannah Simone), Jess’s best friend who’s a model (Schmidt voted for Jess as a housemate because of her model friends). Justin Long (Live Free or Die Hard<\/strong>), Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding<\/strong>), and Jeanne Tripplehorn (Waterworld<\/strong>) also show up as guest stars.<\/p>\n I started watching this show because of Deschanel (Elf<\/strong> and 500 Days of Summer<\/strong>). But the four main characters in the show are all unusual and amazing — that’s what makes it brilliant. There’s nothing unique about the basic premise — it’s the characters and the actors who bring them to life who make the show funny.
