Thunderball<\/strong>, released in 1965<\/p>\n Emilio Largo is now number 2 at SPECTRE. He has an audacious plan to get millions of dollars out of NATO — steal two of their nuclear weapons and hold them for ransom. He steals the weapons, and James Bond goes to the Bahamas to retrieve them.<\/p>\n Since James Bond had a jetpack in 1965, it seems like everyone should have one by now.<\/p>\n There are several underwater scenes, which were probably novel at the time.<\/p>\n Felix Leiter, Bond’s friend at the CIA, helps him out — I forgot how many times we see him, possibly partly because he’s always played by a different actor.<\/p>\n Bond’s treatment of women is at times appalling.<\/p>\n Despite the interesting visuals and music, the story didn’t grab me. It’s possible that the movies in this series follow too much of a formula to watch them all in a row.<\/p>\n Stars Sean Connery and Claudine Auger. Directed by Terence Young (From Russia with Love<\/strong>). The music by John Barry is terrific.<\/p>\n
