{"id":8017,"date":"2016-02-27T23:41:19","date_gmt":"2016-02-28T04:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/?p=8017"},"modified":"2017-10-12T12:21:25","modified_gmt":"2017-10-12T16:21:25","slug":"kw-symphonys-scheherazade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.davidmswitzer.com\/blog\/2016\/02\/kw-symphonys-scheherazade\/","title":{"rendered":"KW Symphony&#8217;s &#8220;Scheherazade&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I went to the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony&#8217;s concert &#8220;Scheherazade.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Usually when I go hear an orchestra live I&#8217;m going to hear at least one piece that I already know. This time I didn&#8217;t know any of the pieces &#8212; but with brilliant composers and a terrific orchestra, you can&#8217;t go wrong.<\/p>\n<p>It was a concert of Russian music. Here&#8217;s the program:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Thaikovsky, The Tempest<\/li>\n<li>Prokofiev, Concerto No. 3 in C major for Piano &amp; Orchestra<\/li>\n<li>Rimsky-Korsakov, Scheherazade<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The piece that jumped out at me the most was Scheherezade &#8212; I might have to add this to my music collection.<\/p>\n<p>Alon Goldstein played the piano for the Concerto. He had a loose playing style that made what he was doing look effortless. The audience appreciated him very much and he came back to play an encore &#8212; no one I talked to knew what the piece was, but it was beautiful.<\/p>\n<p>Edwin Outwater, the KWS music director, was conducting. It&#8217;s recently been announced that next season, his 10th, will be his last.
