For many years I boycotted the movies of Sylvester Stallone and Arnold Schwartzenegger. I believed — and I still believe — that their movies, on the whole, were detrimental to society. The extreme violence is not good for anyone to watch, and I wanted to make some sort of protest of its existence.<\/p>\n
To watch violent movies is to be acclimatized to them — to be acclimatized to them is to think, at least subconsciously, that violence is a normal thing. Perhaps even to think that violence is an acceptable way to solve problems.<\/p>\n
Why those 2 actors and not other action stars? They seemed like good symbols due to their prominence. And there wasn’t much chance I’d ever feel like watching a Dolph Lundgren or\u00a0Jean-Claude Van Damme movie.<\/p>\n
You might think I was drawing an arbitrary line. That’s true — we all draw lines. I try to limit the amount of violence that I watch. I will occasionally watch a violent movie, but only if the story is great.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
