Ashes of Candesce

{4.5/5} “That’s our true enemy… Velleity means ‘having a vague desire to do something, but not enough will to actually do it.’ If we take our message of urgent action around to the nations of Virga, that’s what we’re going to get: a vague interest, some desultory waves of the hand, and no commitment… So, our first tool will be outrage and excitement.”

Ashes of Candesce by Karl Schroeder, published in 2012

Antaea Argyre, no longer with the home guard, returned to Sere to find Leal Maspeth, who’d written her a letter. Leal was currently on the world of Aethyr, trying to make her way back to Virga. At one point her whole group was rescued from an avalanche by a local boy named Keir. He was actually about to run away, but now he takes them to his house, Complication Hall.

This is the sequel to The Sunless Countries.

It’s about trying to figure out which beings are on your side and which are not.

The threads from the earlier books come together in this conclusion. Science fiction fans will want to read this series — with its unique setting, gripping story, and memorable characters.

I’ve read 11 books by Schroeder — this is all except one of his books.
