Alien: Romulus

{5/5} “The safety and well being of our colony is Weyland-Yutani‘s highest priority.”

Alien: Romulus, released in 2024

A ship grabs a big rock in space because there’s something Weyland-Yutani wants inside it. But that rock was near the wreck of the Nostromo, and it has something else on it that they haven’t noticed yet.

Later a group of young miners discover a derelict ship near them. Their parents have all died because of the mining and they don’t want to be next. So they plan to go up and take the ship and fly it to their desired destination.

If you’re making a sequel to a longstanding franchise and want to know how to craft a beginning, you might want to watch this one. The way it gives you something new while paying homage to the original is masterful.

It’s visually delightful. The visuals and story fit nicely in the Alien universe.

The tension is built up beautifully.

I’m not going to watch a movie this intense every day, but this one is top notch.

They resurrected Ian Holm in a way that was well done visually and paid a nice tribute to him and his original character.

Stars Cailee Spaeny, David Jonsson, and Isabela Merced. Directed by Fede Alvarez (Don’t Breathe). The music by Benjamin Wallfisch is delightfully reminiscent of Jerry Goldsmith’s original score.
